Flowers are inspiring and wonderful ... |
Flowers -- tulips, roses, peonies, orchids. These are the stuff of Barbara Bordnick's photographs. By turns striking, charming, and even a little shocking, these works do not so much breathe new life into an old genre as they reinvent it altogether. They push forward a tradition, the closeup depiction of flowers, which has included the photographer Imogen Cunningham and the painters Georgia O'Keefe and Andy Warhol. Bordnick shows flowers as we've never seen them; with a sculptor's eye for form and a painter's eye for color, and with technological advances in color photography that allow her to peer into the interior of flowers, these works are stunners. Clevelanders will get a special opportunity to see the work of Barbara Bordnick and to meet her as she brings an exhibit of 33 works to Cleveland Botanical Garden from October 20 to November 23, 2003. The exhibit comes straight to Cleveland after being received enthusiastically at galleries in New York City and Brooklyn. Bordnick will also deliver a special lecture, Searchings: A Photographer's Career, on October 20 at 1:00 PM at the Garden (fee: $12/members; $19/nonmembers). Source: Cleveland Botanical Garden |
